Our Bio-composite
What is Bio-composite?
Bio-composite is a composite material made from teak dust, polymers and additives — also known as Wood Plastic Composite (WPC). The high density of the material results in very little water absorption and increased strength, making it ideal for outdoor applications. At Destination Green we produce decking (boards and click tiles), cladding, roof shingles, T&G flooring, fencing and furniture components.
Why our Bio-composite?
Two factors determine the quality of a bio-composite product: the quality of the raw ingredients and using them in the right proportions. At Destination Green, we control both. Teak dust is the primary ingredient in our bio-composite, sourced from local furniture manufacturers who cannot use it themselves — their waste is our main ingredient. Besides being a recycled ingredient, teak dust gives our composite its natural look.
Why we produce Bio-composite?
By combining recycled teak dust with recycled A-grade HDPE, we achieve a composite with 80% recycled content — of which 70% is organic — that is 100% recyclable. We believe it is a far more environmentally friendly material than natural wood: the wood component is a leftover from existing furniture manufacturing, so no trees are cut for our production. Our bio-composite also withstands the test of time — it requires little maintenance, does not crack, has almost no water absorption and shows very little discoloration.
Experience
We started producing bio-composite in 2010. After numerous improvements over more than 15 years, we now have a product that is excellent in both quality and appearance, produced under our own brand Destination Green by PT Roma Export.
Location
Our production is based in Yogyakarta, where we do mixing, extrusion and assembly.
Process
Our products are extruded. Extrusion means we push the WPC material through a mold (die) with a specific profile, under high heat and pressure. The result is a WPC plank that follows this profile and can be made in any length. Some profiles are fairly complicated with various hollow spaces; others are simple and solid. Examples of our WPC profiles are depicted below.
