WPC Roof Shingles (Sirap)

Destination Green’s bio-composite roof shingles — known in Indonesia as sirap — are made to resemble traditional ironwood (ulin) sirap. Ulin is the reference roofing timber in Indonesia, but its supply is limited and its trade is increasingly restricted. Our shingles give a roof the same layered look, made from recycled teak dust and recycled HDPE at our own factory in Yogyakarta. They absorb minimal water and resist rot and termites, so the roof keeps its appearance without the periodic treatment a timber sirap roof needs. They are used on villa and resort roofs, pergolas and gazebos.

Material & Specifications

The standard shingle measures 340 mm long, 199 mm wide and 5 mm thick, and weighs 0.5 kg per piece. On request we also produce straight-cut shingles, longer shingles of 400 mm and 450 mm, and square shingles. The standard colour resembles ulin; other colours are available on request. The material has fire class B.

The bio-composite is made from recycled teak dust and recycled HDPE: 80% recycled content, of which 70% is organic, and 100% recyclable. It has been independently tested by SHR Testing Center in the Netherlands against natural teak, and outperformed it on water resistance, UV weathering, hardness and wear resistance.

Coverage per m²

The number of shingles per m² depends on the roof pitch and on whether the underlayment is fully waterproof. Lower pitches and roofs without a fully waterproof membrane need more overlap, and therefore more shingles per m². Our team calculates the layout for each project.

Supply and Installation

We supply the shingles and can also install them. Production takes place at our own factory in Yogyakarta, operated by PT Roma Export, where we have made bio-composite building materials for more than 15 years. The teak dust comes from local furniture manufacturers as a waste by-product, so no trees are cut for it.

Our bio-composite sirap has been installed on the S.A.B.A office in Sanur, Bali, a villa project in Bedugul, Bali, and Desa LCM in Ubud.
