Roof Shingles

Destination Green’s bio-composite roof shingles — known locally as sirap — bring the natural look of traditional teak shingles to WPC (wood-plastic composite) roofing, with the improved durability and lower maintenance of our bio-composite material. Made from recycled teak dust and recycled HDPE at our own factory in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, our roof shingles are designed for tropical climates: they have minimal water absorption and strong resistance to rot, termites and discoloration, so a roof keeps its appearance without the periodic treatment traditional teak sirap needs. They are used across pergolas, gazebos and full roofing accents on villas and resort buildings, wherever a project wants the layered, textured look of a traditional shingle roof.

Material & Specifications

Each bio-composite shingle measures 340 mm long, 199 mm wide and 5 mm thick, and weighs 0.5 kg per piece. Like the rest of our WPC range, the material is made from recycled teak dust combined with recycled HDPE, giving it 80% recycled content, of which 70% is organic teak dust, and making the finished shingle 100% recyclable. Our bio-composite has also been independently tested by SHR Testing Center in the Netherlands against natural teak, and outperformed it on water resistance, UV weathering, hardness and wear resistance.

Made In Our Own Factory

We have been producing bio-composite building materials under our own brand, manufactured by PT Roma Export, for more than 15 years, with all mixing and production done at our own factory in Yogyakarta. The teak dust used in our shingles is sourced as a waste by-product from local furniture manufacturers, so no trees are cut to produce it, and combined with recycled HDPE it gives the shingles a high recycled content while keeping the warm, natural appearance of teak sirap.

Where Our Roof Shingles Have Been Used

Destination Green bio-composite sirap has been installed on roofing projects including the S.A.B.A office in Sanur, Bali, a villa project in Bedugul, Bali, and Desa LCM in Ubud. In each case the shingles were chosen to give a resort or villa roof the traditional sirap look while cutting down on the ongoing maintenance a natural teak shingle roof needs in a tropical, high-rainfall climate.
